When in Chianti, you will come across some of the great personalities, who were born, lived or visited the area. One is Giovanni Da Verrazzano, the famous navigator and explorer. But one of the most famous, talked about, alive and very much kicking Chianti legends is Dario Cecchini.
He is based in Panzano in Chianti, approx. 30 km south from Florence, not really ‘down town’, but he has to be first on the list, when talking about dining in Chianti and the bistecca. He is called ‘the mad butcher from Panzano‘ and also ‘the best butcher in the world‘. Some refer to him simply as a ‘good show man’. What ever you think about his persona, he claims that he has dedicated his life ‘at the service of her majesty bistecca alla fiorentina’, and there is no doubt, that he has done more, getting the florentine steak known world wide, than any other good butcher in the neighbourhood. Dario Doc: Choose one of the three reasonable priced menus. Quality fast food, try the McDario burger with home made bread and salsas, grilled meat plate or specialities from the butcher’s shop.
